Gupt, starring Bobby Deol, Kajol, and Manisha Koirala, turns 25 today. On this precise date, two and a half decades ago, the Rajiv Rai film premiered. Gupt’s finale and, of course, its music remain a part of popular culture. At the time, a song with Bobby Deol dancing in all-black clothes in a disco was highly popular. Deol previously told Bollywood Hungama that he would spend the entire day practising for the number, to the point where his jeans would get wet in sweat. Udit Narayan sang the song and Viju Shah composed the well-known dance song “Duniya Haseeno Ka Mela.” He recalled some behind-the-scenes incidents while doing so.
The actor said, “It’s one of my big hits and Viju Shah’s best album to date. I wish I could have worked with Rajiv Rai more after that film. But for some reason, things made him leave his country and go away. I remember when I was shooting that song ‘Duniya Haseeno Ka Mela,’ it was set up in Mehboob studio only. I remember dancing with Chinni Prakash Ji, and meri pata hai kya haalat hoti the unn dino, main itni rehearsal Karta tha ki meri pant bheeng jaati the sweat se, Jaise Kisi ne paani phenka ho. I just wanted to do the best I could. It was a great song. I remember even the way Rajiv promoted the film, the day the songs were supposed to release, the whole day the channels were only playing Gupt’s soundtrack,”
