In the south film industry, Ram Charan and his wife Upasana Kamineni are among the most adored couples. The two’s love story is nothing short of spectacular. The couple wed in 2012 and have been blissfully married ever since. The couple has been married for over ten years, yet they have never had children.
Upasana recently confessed that she doesn’t want children when speaking with spiritual authority Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev at the 17th ATA Convention. Upasana said during the conversation that she is frequently questioned about the three RRRs of her life—relationship, reproduction, and role.
By RRR she was referring to her husband’s most recent hit. She then said, “I have been very happily married for 10 years now. I love my life, I love my family but why do people find it their duty to question my RRR. RRR is my relationship, my ability to reproduce, and my role in my life. There are so many women like me who would want an answer to this.”
Talking about the second R, Sadhguru said, “If you stay this way, not reproducing, I am going to give you an award. I have already announced an award for all those young women, who are healthy and can reproduce but choose not to. This is the greatest service you can do right now. This is not an endangered species. We are just too many. We are heading towards 10 billion in the next 30-35 years. Man is worried about carbon footprint but if the human footprint is reduced, there is no need to worry about global warming too. So, it’s good to see women who chose to not reproduce.” Upon his reply, Upasana replied, “I would make you speak with my mother and mother-in-law very soon.”
This year, Ram Charan has had two films released. The first was RRR, a film directed by SS Rajamouli and starring Jr. NTR. With a global gross of more than 1100 crore, the movie became one of the most popular Indian films of all time. One more movie that was released this year was ‘Acharya’ in which he starred along with his father Chiranjeevi but it turned out to be a box office failure.
