What an awful Diwali we have this year no thanks to the Coronavirus and the Lockdown! In case we need any further proof of how wretched the year is, just watch Akshay Kumar’s Laxxmii

It is a dark and eerie tale of a how a man named Laxman transforms into a transgender named Laxmmi.

Laxmi,as we all know is the Goddess of light who visits us every Diwali. And to celebrate this festival of the triumph of light over darkness, Bollywood has always provided us with ebullient bright sparkling films during Diwali such as Diwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, Krissh , Happy New Year and Prem Rattan Dhan Payo.

For those of us who have seen the original Tamil film Kanchana would know there is nothing even remotely festive about Laxmmi Bomb the story of a man who becomes possessed by the ghost of a woman seeking revenge for her murder and the murder of her family.

One hears Akshay Kumar was keen to release the film in movie theatres , for that’s where Laxmmi Bomb belongs . To release it on the home medium for an already-gloomy Covid-controlled Diwali is to add insult to injury.

The other two Diwali releases Suraj Pe Manga Bhari and Ludo are far more happy experiences. Let’s focus on those.
