Darkhawk almost made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, according to writer/director James Gunn. Darkhawk was created by Tom DeFalco and Mike Manley and debuted in 1991 in his own Marvel Comics book, which lasted until 1995. Since then, the character has appeared in a variety of other titles, limited-run series, and multi-title events. Christopher Powell, a New York kid, finds a mysterious amulet that allows him to trade places with a strong android, providing him a wide range of superhuman skills such as energy manipulation, teleportation, flying, night vision, and quick healing.
Following the events of the last film, the titular team finds itself marooned on a distant planet after crossing the Sovereign race, where they are greeted by Peter Quill’s long-lost father, the ancient Celestial known as Ego. Along with Zoe Saldaa, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Michael Rooker, and Karen Gillan, Chris Pratt once again led the cast of the MCU sequel, which also featured Pom Klementieff as Mantis, Elizabeth Debicki, Chris Sullivan, Sylvester Stallone, and Kurt Russell making their franchise debuts. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 drew acclaim from reviewers and audiences alike for Gunn’s directing and writing, as well as the visual effects, music, and cast performances, and it was a box office success.
While production on the MCU threequel continues, Illuminerdi host Jezzer Zeus took to Twitter to pitch James Gunn on making Darkhawk his next movie if he wants to return to the Marvel universe after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Gunn responded to the idea by saying that Darkhawk was almost in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, but he didn’t expand.
