The industry has recently experienced an increase in the number of low-budget films. Kahaani: This crime thriller was a rollercoaster till the last scene and was made with a budget of Rs 8 crores but it ended up grossing over Rs 104 crores at the box office.

Paan Singh Tomar: This national award-winning biographical was made within a budget of Rs 8 crores. The movie eventually did a business of over Rs 19 crores at the box office.

Vicky Donor: Ayushmann Khurrana’s debut movie is probably one of the best debuts of all time. The fresh script and good storytelling along with the stellar acting by Ayushmann and Yami Gautam made sure that a film that was made in just Rs 5 crores ended up collecting over Rs 67 crores.

Peepli Live: This satire which threw light on some deep-rooted societal issues was also India’s entry for the 23rd Academy Awards and was made on a small budget of Rs 10 crores and ended up making over Rs 48 crores at the box office.
