Shruti Haasan has always been open about her love for the Goth subculture in several interviews earlier. The actress has often spruced up the internet with her gothic-inspired looks, and such has been one time when she got trolled for wearing black lipstick and was called Chudail.
Talking to Pinkvilla, Shruti said, “I didn’t wear that black lipstick so that you can put that gold star on your report card of me. I did it because I wanted to do it.” She said, “When I took a break from the movies for a while and started focusing on my music, writing stories in London, I decided to go back to the same. So a lot of people were like what’s going on but some people said she has always been this and has gone back to same. Some people didn’t understand it and said she looks like a vampire, horror/chudail. I used to be like it’s okay you can call it whatever you want. You can keep saying me chudail, that is my aesthetic and it makes me feel powerful. Now they gave up.”
She added, “I grew up idolising and I love the whole metal scene, I love the goth subculture. I love that whole aesthetic. I get comments like what happened to you, you look like ‘chudail’ and I say ok, yeah it’s fine… that’s cool because witches are bad so I love that.” as quoted by ABP Live.
