Many people assume that Indians are bad at singing in English, and that ‘we always sound like we’re trying too hard,’ according to singer Armaan Malik. He talked about the dissuasive remarks he received and how he accepts them with a grain of salt.

In 2020, Armaan released his debut English single, Control. He’s also performed songs like How Many and Echo. His latest track, You, was released earlier this month.

Armaan discussed the criticisms that discouraged him from singing in English during an interview with Bollywood Bubble. “I’ve had comments on my blogs and even on my YouTube videos saying things like, ‘English mein mat GAA, Hindi mein GAA, tu usme hi behtar hai (Sing in Hindi, not English, you’re better at it)’. These are statements that I need to take with a grain of salt because whenever you do something that people don’t anticipate when you go against the grain and break the rules, there will always be naysayers and those who are opposed to what you’re trying to do. “It’s just OK,” he stated.

Armaan stated he aspires to be the Indian artist that Indian fans can root for all across the world. “Even if some people say, ‘You sing better in Hindi, it’s best if you sing solely in Hindi, don’t sing in English…’ People say things like, “Don’t strive to be Justin Bieber.” I don’t believe I’m attempting to imitate anyone. When you attempt anything new, there are a lot of individuals that have such assumptions. It’s nice to have that competition; not everyone can be your fan, and not everyone can be your lover, but at the end of the day, I believe it’s about proving everyone wrong,” he remarked.
