Anyone can become a victim of mental health and substance use disorders (SUD), despite age, race, or background. Celebrities, too, fight addictions and mental health issues. However, substance and intoxication can result in symptoms of depression, mania, anxiety, paranoia, and more. Presenting to you the list of popular personalities who have struggled to maintain positive mental health while also struggling with drug addiction.
1. Britney Spears
Britney Spears was diagnosed with Bipolar disorder and she also suffered from postpartum depression. She also had been going through mental health treatments in the past, her fans had made a hashtag of Instagram #FreeBritney. Spears also said that she was a heavy drinker, was into smoking and substance.
2. Demi Lovato
Demi Lovato, in her twenties, was into substance abuse which deteriorated her mental health. In July 2018, the 25-year-old overdosed herself at home in the Hollywood Hills and had to be revived with Narcan (an anti-Opioid overdose medication). For years, Lovato has been vocal about her addiction and how that’s affected her bipolar disorder and disordered eating.
Demi said that “What I’ve learned is that this illness is not something that disappears or fades with time. It is something I must continue to overcome and have not done yet. I want to thank God for keeping me alive and well.”
3. Russell Brand
Russell Brand confessed that he was into drugs and alcohol. He was also diagnosed with depression and had problems binge eating. He has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and ADHD.
“If you’re addicted to bad relationships, bad food, abusive bosses, conflict, or pornography, it can take a lifetime to spot the problem, and apparently a lifetime is all we have,” said Russel Brand.
4. Jada Pinkett Smith
Actress Jada Pinkett Smith’s Facebook show “Red Table Talk” has opened gates for a number of guests to be vocal about the traumatic experiences in their lives. Jada has also spoken up about the effect her mother’s hard drug use had on her as a child, as well as her own addictions.
“I had many addictions, of several kinds, to deal with my life issues, but today, at 42, I have my wisdom, my heart, and my conscience as the only tools to overcome life’s inevitable obstacles,” said Jade.
