Bappi was born in the beautiful city of Jalpaiguri, West Bengal, India, on November 27, 1952. Alokesh ‘Bappi’ Lahiri was his given name when he was born. Kishore Kumar, the legendary Indian playback singer, is his maternal uncle (late).
Aparesh and Bansari Lahiri, his parents, are well-known Bengali singers and classical musicians. Bappi began playing the tabla at the age of three, following in his parents’ footsteps (drum). His parents taught him how to play this incredible instrument.
