Female rappers like Megan Thee Stallion, Cardi B, Doja Cat, and Nicki Minaj have shown their supremacy in everything from viral moments to apparel lines and reigning over the music charts.

In the history of music, there will never be another year quite like 2020. The limits imposed by Covid-19 stopped in-person performances and music festivals, wreaked havoc on the touring business, and altered the format of award presentations as we know them. Without live concerts to market their music, recording artists were forced to rely on the internet to communicate with their fans, which had a positive impact on the charts.

With the funky “Say So” remix starring Nicki Minaj, Doja got her first No. 1 song. The milestone marks the first time two female rappers have topped the Billboard Hot 100, as well as Minaj’s first No. 1 song.

Megan, like Chika, is a newcomer to the rap business, but her career has taken off in what seems like a matter of months. The Houston Hot Girl released her debut studio album, Good News, on Nov. 20 after a hectic year both personally and professionally. The eagerly awaited album arrived at No. 2 on the Billboard Top 200 chart.

Whether you like it or not, Cardi B’s racy tune (featuring Megan) premiered at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming the first female rapper to do so. It also extended the Bronx native’s record for the most No. 1s by a female rapper. Megan now has two chart-topping songs on her record, with the song racking up almost 1 billion plays and topping the U.S. Spotify Charts (another first for female rappers). Cardi was also voted Woman of the Year by Billboard.
