On September 4, Beyoncé turned 40, and Access Hollywood kicked off the celebrations with the ultimate Bey lookback! Access revisits some of our greatest moments with the music legend throughout the years, including a 2011 interview in which she shared her goals before turning 40. “I’d want to have some children before I get 40,” she added, adding that she also wishes to be happy while continuing to compose music and dabbling in directing.

Beyoncé has spoken up about her ambitions for new music, the challenges she encountered as a Black woman in the music industry early on, her sentiments about approaching 40, and the “celebration,” “joy,” and “love” she hopes the next decade will bring in a rare interview.

In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, the singer said that she had been in the studio for a year and a half, in response to the question “When can we anticipate new music?” “It feels exactly as thrilling as it did when I was nine years old after 31 years [in the industry],” Beyoncé told the site. “Yes, the music is coming!” she said, but she didn’t go into detail.

Beyoncé, who turned 40 in September, also reminisced on her early career, when she began competing in singing and dancing contests at the age of seven and learned to push herself harder due to her skin tone. She said: “I was frequently the only Black female, and it was at that point that I realized I needed to stand out.”
