Gaga, whose actual name is Stefani Germanotta, began playing the piano at the age of four and went on to play leading roles in school plays and enroll in performing classes. She began working with producer Rob Fusari and produced tracks with singer Melle Mel before meeting performance artist Lady Starlight, who helped her build her on-stage presence. In 2007, the two performed together at the Lollapalooza event.

Gaga was signed in November 2007 and began writing songs for artists such as Britney Spears, Fergie, and the Pussycat Dolls. They were nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song, and she played it at the 2016 event, calling victims onto the stage with her.
