How does it feel to be back on Sa Re Ga Ma Pa?
It feels great to be a part of the show once again. I am glad that we are reconnecting with the audiences again through Sa Re Ga Ma Pa and its viewers love which has got us back on the show.
Any special memory do you have related to the show?
I joined the franchise as a judge for the first time in 2011. I have even hosted Sa Re Ga Ma Pa in 2012 and then judged the longest-running and historical season in 2017 as well. So, I’ve had some special memories with the musical franchise. 2017 season was the most amazing season and those fond memories I am going to relive for sure. Also, audiences will see a lot of fun and amazing moments in this season as well.
How is your bond with your co-judges Alka, Himesh?
We are going to have a lot of fun on the set. We would encourage the kids. We have already been part of one reality show where we worked together so we bond very well and have a great understanding too.
You’ve been in this industry for a long time, how has music evolved over the years?
There have been a lot of changes and truly the industry has evolved. The singing style has also changed. Now, the songs are sung in a stylish way which attracts audiences. There are changes in composition as well. Earlier there were 3 antaras in a song, later it was cut down to 2 now there is 1 antara and 1 mukhda. With these changes, audiences get to listen a crispy song duration wise. I feel whatever may be the reason, the soul of the song should be intact.
You’ve given Bollywood some chart-busting hits, which song has been your personal favourite?
My personal favourites are Galat Baat Hai from Main Tera Hero, Kun Faya Kun, Jashn-E-Bahaara and Ishaqzaade’s title song.
Which has been the turning point in your life?
The turning point was when I got my first break with song Jashn-E-Bahaara in 2009. In fact, in 2007 when I got the song Ek Din Teri Raahon Mein my life changed and I got amazing songs and they became superhit amongst audiences.
Who is the biggest inspiration in your life?
I am a huge fan of Mohammad Rafi Sahab, Ghulam Ali Khan Sahab, Lata Mangeshkar. In fact, Lata ji sends me gifts and she likes me as well. I also talk to her a lot so I have learnt a lot of things from them.
How did you spend your quarantine time?
I recorded 10-12 songs during the lockdown phase. 6 songs were for COVID-19 warriors. I also did a few private projects and worked on a few songs for the upcoming films. I also helped my wife in household work.
Any message for fans?
I would only like to say that you guys make us who we are, keep loving and supporting us.
