Lil Nas X previously talked up about his amazing music career and the tremendous popularity of his song “Old Town Road,” which is from his first album Montero. In an interview with XXL today, the rapper stated that he would not have had the confidence to come out if he hadn’t found success through the song he co-wrote with Billy Ray Cyrus.
“I’m not sure I’d have ever come out.” “It almost felt like it was my responsibility. Especially if I wished to progress. And with what I was doing, because I believe that authenticity is really real, and that people can see straight through it.” Lil Nas X stated, “And that’s a part of me.”
The rapper also admitted that he was worried about what people would think of him after he went public. “I used to get ‘like’ remarks like, ‘Oh, I like him because he’s not all in your face about it,’ and so on. And then I recognised what it was,” he explained.
“It’s like when people say, ‘Oh, I have a Black friend,’ and it kind of puts a lid on anything having to do with their Black culture and history, and so on.” I’m like, “You know, I’m not that person.” He stated his case.
