M.M.D is one of the newest additions to the female groups in K-pop. The group was formed on the tvN variety show, Mama the Idol. The show is about legendary stars who took time off after giving birth and raising their kids who are ready for a comeback. The show has some impressive stars who were part of active girl groups or actresses.

The M.M.D. members consist of Park Jung-ah of Jewelry, Sunye of Wonder Girls, Kahi from After School, Yang Eun Ji of Baby Vox Re.V, Hyun Jyu-ni of Scarlet mojo-Pin, and finally solo artist Byul.

They released a new song, “WooAh HIP”, on the 28th of January. The song is a dance track from the Slap house genre with some Trap elements. The message of the song, according to a Soompi report, relays, “You too can become like us”.

According to a Next Shark Report, the pop-culture critic Kim Heon-sik said, “Female fans who loved them at the peak of their popularity have grown older too and are likely to be mothers themselves today. Many of them also may have halted or ended their careers because of childcare. So it’s natural for them to become emotionally invested in the female stars’ attempts to resume their careers and gain a sense of vicarious satisfaction.”

He also noted how the concept broke a lot of outdated ideas about the age of female idols. He stated, “Compared to male idols, women were much more harshly judged on their youth or the effects of aging on their looks. But nowadays, more fans of female idols are women and are very loyal.”

M.M.D released a performance video on YouTube of their new song, WooAh HIP. The video got quite a positive response. The video didn’t take long to reach 100 million views and is quite close to reaching 200 million soon!
