On and offstage, Beyoncé is recognized for being a style chameleon. The actress’s dress sense is excellent. Beyoncé, on the other hand, holds Givenchy dear to her heart when it comes to the Met Gala red carpet: she’s worn the now-deceased creative director Riccardo Tisci’s special creations for the French label five years in a row. She ascended the grand staircase of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 2012 wearing an ombré haute couture gown with a purple feathered train trailing behind her.
Fast forward to 2014, when Beyoncé was stunned in a plunging mesh dress with a matching veil pulled over her eyes and a plunging mesh dress cut down to her knees.
The next year, she returned in yet another recklessly revealing, crystal-embroidered gown that flaunted her legendary curves. The “bare dress” she wore in 2016, an outgrowth of her latex-heavy tour outfits, was possibly the boldest of them.
Beyoncé skipped 2017 due to the birth of her twins the following month, but there’s no knowing what she has planned for her long-awaited return to the ball this year on the first Monday in May. If her previous red-carpet appearances are any indication, it will be faultless.
