Bharat Ratna is the most elevated civilian award in India. After a week-long struggle with COVID-19, Lata Mangeshkar died on February 6 at the age of 92 at the Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai. Indian playback artist Javed Ali, who was mourning her death, recalled the impact the great vocalist had on all music fans.
Ali told Republic, “Lata Mangeshkar’s legacy will live on forever.” “Her music will go on in perpetuity, and she will never be forgotten. Her voice is a gift from God that will never fade.” Ali also talked about one of his finest moments in life, when Lata Didi complimented him on one of his Tamil songs. “May you soar higher and keep singing such great songs,” she said, he remembered.
“Lata Mangeshkar is and will always be the pride of our nation,” Shaan tells the Bombay Times, “and if there is anything that India might be recognized for, it is that it is the place that has a voice like the famous Lata Mangeshkar.”
“When it comes to singing, when it comes to emoting with your voice, no one can be like her, there is no one like her on this earth,” Shaan adds, “while acknowledging that no singer can truly remark on her vast body of work because she was beyond it all. She is, without a doubt, an institution in her own right, having inspired billions to dream via her music. Of course, there are others who take up singing only for the purpose of making money.”
