Tulsi Kumar has had a stunning year in 2019 with blockbuster songs and she’s in no mood to settle for anything less than perfection. 2020 has started on a good note for Tulsi and currently, she’s back with the amazing and soulful track Zara Thehro alongside the very amazing Armaan Malik. The romantic track Zara Thehro is such a lovely creation. Your voice complimented so well with Armaan’s and vice versa. Are we to see this singing pair collaborate more often now?
Oh yes of course. Zara Thehro is a beautiful composition by Amaal. As far as I and Armaan are concerned, we have come together earlier as well in few songs and we certainly will be coming together a lot more, be it film music or music in the independent space.
Did the preparations for this song start during the lockdown itself? What did you do to make your lockdown productive?
So, the basic melody and everything was already there before the lockdown but the final recording and everything happened during the lockdown. The lockdown has truly been a very productive phase. I have a small little studio in the house and I have made full use of it. I have pretty much converted it into a full-time studio now (smiles). So overall, the lockdown has been amazingly productive and it has certainly brought me closer to my music.
The song has crossed more than 20 million views in less than two weeks. What do you have to say about this grand reception?
The beauty of a soulful song is it is always something you want to fall back upon and I am lucky I have had songs like Tera Bann Jayunga, Soch Na Sake and many more in my career which are very soulful. I am thankful to the audience that they are able to relate with the song so nicely.
The lyrics of the song are truly touching and heartfelt. For a singer who’s singing a song, do meaningful lyrics enhance the energy while recording the track?
For lyrics, I have to give a huge shoutout to Rashmi Virag because every time she pens down lyrics, people connect to it from the core of their heart. For me, personally, connecting with meaningful lyrics is very important as it certainly helps me deliver better. So I will certainly not deny that.
Lastly, you had a fabulous 2019. What plans going forward to end this year on a high?
Well, all thanks to the love of the audience that they made 2019 extremely special for me. 2020 too has started on a nice note for me with respect to music but if I look at it from the other point of view, the world is certainly at a standstill now. We are constantly hoping that things change. As far as I and my fellow musicians are concerned, we are trying to create some good music for everyone because music is extremely essential at a time like this as it helps us remain sane and happy. 2020 has been good too for me with respect to music but I want other things around 2020 to get better too. I plan to come up with a lot more in the independent music space. Stay tuned for more.
