Is Rihanna Losing Her Popularity After Islamic Hadith Controversy?

Rihanna, the Barbados based renowned Hollywood singer, actress, and songwriter, is one of the top musicians in the Hollywood music industry. She has released one after another hit songs starting from Umbrella (2007), to Diamond (2012), Work (2016), and many more. According to Forbes, she is also considered to be one of the highest-paid artists in Hollywood.

Recently, Rihanna was stuck in a controversy as some religious sentiments of the Muslim community were hurt. During the Savage x Fenty lingerie fashion show, a song with sacred texts was played, which included a hadith (a sacred Islamic written record of sayings and actions of the Prophet Mohammed, and is second only to the Quran) narration about the ending of the world and judgment day. This thing did hurt the sentiments of the Muslim community and was pointed out by them. Later, on October 5, 2020, in an Instagram story, Rihanna said, “I’d like to thank the Muslim community for pointing out a huge oversight that was unintentionally offensive in our savage x Fenty show.”

Later on, she added, “I would, more importantly, like to apologize to you for this honest, yet careless mistake. We understand that we have hurt many of our Muslim brothers and sisters, and I’m incredibly disheartened by this! I do not play with any kind of disrespect towards God or any religion and therefore the use of the song in our project was completely irresponsible! Moving forward we will make sure nothing like this ever happens again. Thank you for your forgiveness and understanding.”

The singer had faced a lot of backlashes but she apologized for the incident. People have still remembered it and Rihanna is still facing it on social media. But she has been forgiven by many of her fans. What do you think? Did she lose her popularity after this?
