All of Selena Gomez’s tattoos have a special meaning for her and are linked to it. Each of the singer’s tattoos is meant to represent or honor a specific person in her life.
1. Roman Numeral Tattoo
Selena Gomez got her second tattoo, “LXXVI,” in 2012 from renowned New York City tattoo artist Keith Scott’ Bang Bang’ McCurdy. Mandy Teefey, Selena’s mother, was only 16 years old when she gave birth to the singer. As a tribute to her mother, Gomez had the year 1976 engraved on the back of her neck. 1976 is her mother’s birth year.
2. “God Who Strengthens Me” Tattoo on the Thigh
Selena Gomez received her third tattoo on her thigh in 2012, and she kept it hidden for more than a year. During a radio interview in 2013, the singer admitted to having a tattoo on her thigh, which she has successfully concealed. Selena Gomez had a tweaked version of her favorite bible scripture, Philippians 4:13, etched on her thigh, which says “God who strengthens me.”
3. Matching ‘1’ Tattoo
Selena Gomez’s Arabic tattoo reads “love yourself first,” and she had it tattooed by Bang Bang again in 2014. The singer had wanted this tattoo for a long time, according to the tattoo artist, and she already knew what she wanted to be engraved on it. After playing around with the design and laying it out, the location for Selena Gomez’s back tattoo was decided.
4. Prayer Hands Tattoo on Her Left Thigh
On November 24, 2019, Selena Gomez displayed a big tattoo on her left upper thigh backstage at the 2019 American Music Awards. Bang Bang inked the artwork, which features two hands united in prayer with a rosary draped around them. Selena got the tattoo a few days before the AMAs, according to the tattoo artist, who debuted it shortly after her performance.
