Rihanna has established herself as the de facto Met Gala red carpet queen, with a flair for nailing the year’s theme. It wasn’t always like this, though. Rihanna was always well-dressed when she first attended the Met Gala in 2007, but it took a few more trips up the renowned museum steps for her to emerge as an ascended master of Met Gala attire.

From a fitted suit in 2009 to a daring Stella McCartney white two-piece gown in 2014, she has worn a variety of outfits at the Met Gala. Rihanna was clearly one of the finest dressed attendees on the 2015 red carpet, sporting a yellow Guo Pei gown with an extremely enormous train and a matching headpiece that grabbed headlines and may have been one of the most memorable.

Rihanna made history in the year 2021. It was the first time she walked the red carpet with her current beau A$AP Rocky, who she met on the red carpet. Rihanna isn’t always keen on sticking to the concept. She wore a Demna Gvasalia for Balenciaga ensemble for the 2021 exhibition “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion.”

On the red carpet, she added in a media article, “I’m an immigrant, and that’s my interpretation on American fashion.” What did Rihanna do for the 2018 theme, “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination?” She dressed up like Pope Benedict XVI. She enlisted the help of Maison Margiela designer John Galliano to create the ensemble, which was based on one he created for a guy when at Dior.
