Whether it’s a split or a public feud, Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez are no strangers to their drama making headlines. But they’ve never ceased publicly supporting each other throughout their careers. They’ve played live jointly, twirled at award events, and most recently, praised each other’s new music after becoming friends while both dating Jonas Brothers in 2008. Swift even made a cameo on Selena + Chef, Gomez’s new HBO Max culinary show. Despite the fact that the pandemic limited their time together, their connection remains strong.
In a 2017 conversation with KIIS FM UK, Selena detailed why she and Swift met, and it has to do with their early careers. “We were actually dating the Jonas Brothers at the same time! It was hilarious “Gomez mentioned her connection with Nick and Swift’s relationship with Joe to the hosts. “Because she was the girl with the enormous curly hair, and the bracelets, and the cowboy boots, it was incredible. And I was really on the rise, and we hit it off right away,” she continued. “It was the best thing that came out of those friendships.”
They could be friends before 2008, as per Gomez’s comments in September 2008. They first saw one other during the premiere of Gomez’s film, Some other Cinderella Story.
All eyes were on Miley Cyrus’s twerking performance at the 2013 VMAs. Gomez and Swift, on the other hand, received accolades for their music videos for “Come & Get It” and “I Knew You Were Trouble,” respectively.
