Why SEVENTEEN? The boy band SEVENTEEN is named after the total of 13 people, their three sub-groups, and the one team they form when they all join together.

Because most three-to-four-minute songs are divided among 13 members, highlighting individual skills becomes difficult in a group of this size. SEVENTEEN’s sub-group arrangement aids in the resolution of this issue. Rapping, singing, and dancing are their specialties with the three sub-groups which are; the hip-hop unit (S. Coups, Wonwoo, Mingyu, Vernon), vocal unit (Woozi, Jeonghan, Joshua, DK, Seungkwan), and performance unit (Hoshi, Jun, The8, Dino).

Since 2015, the members have recorded songs in units in addition to recording as a whole group on most albums. A “Leaders” unit, which includes the leaders of the three sub-groups, and the special unit BSS, which includes comedy trio Seungkwan, DK, and Hoshi, are formed on a regular basis.

Since the group’s debut in 2015, SEVENTEEN has steadily risen to this point—and, more broadly, to become one of the best K-pop groups in the world. The 13 members’ talents include songwriting, choreography, singing, rapping, and dancing, earning them a solid reputation as self-producing stars in the K-pop industry.

BTS’s company, Big Hit Entertainment, has become the largest shareholder in SEVENTEEN’s label, PLEDIS Entertainment. While PLEDIS is anticipated to maintain its independence, the relocation has caused SEVENTEEN fans to speculate on what changes the group might undergo as a result of the shift.
