Formed through a survival show, Sixteen, JYP Entertainment’s TWICE comprises nine members while YG Entertainment’s Blackpink comprises only about four members. Debuting in October 2015, TWICE rose to fame with their incredibly catchy Korean pop music featuring “killing parts” and “point choreography”. It also has more album sales in comparison to Blackpink. It is the world’s bestselling K-pop girl group, having hit 10 million cumulative physical album sales in South Korea and Japan by the end of 2020. This group also holds the record for winning the most number of Daesangs (Korean Grand Prize)

Blackpink on the other hand debuted in August 2016 and is best known for their hip hop and EDM music and also for their diverse and varied concepts within each music video. It is the most followed K-pop girl group on Spotify, with about 20 million followers. This renowned group charted at No. 13 on the Billboard Hot 100 with their song Ice Cream; ft. Selena Gomez, making them the highest-charting female Korean act. Netizens find Blackpink to be the best and believe them to be the real Queens of K-pop. They also feel no one can beat Blackpink, but Blackpink can beat all K-pop girl groups.

With their huge list of achievements, it’s clear that both girl groups have shown immense talent and worked hard to make their way up in the music industry. While TWICE seems to have dominated East Asia, Blackpink has made its mark on the Western music market.
