Twice is the first K-Pop girl group that achieved Platinum certification by the Recording Industry Association. Through the competition reality show SIXTEEN, TWICE was formed under JYP Entertainment. This popular band dominated YouTube’s most-viewed K-pop girl band’s music video with 3.90 million likes and around 187.2 million views. Twice’s video ‘Breakthrough’ gathered 100 million views, making them the girl group with the most music videos to surpass 100 million views. Twice being one of the best K-pop girl groups, the band is renowned for its striking fashion outfits, and synchronized choreography.
ITZY on the other hand too was formed by JYP Entertainment and it gained fame really quickly not only because it’s from one of Korea’s biggest and most successful K-pop agencies, but also because some of its associates like Ryujin have competed on various television shows. Surprisingly, Itzy is also the only third South Korean vocal band made up of women to gain the top 10 on the Top Album Sales chart.
ITZY made its debut in 2019 and made history as the first and only K-pop girl group to achieve a “Rookie Grand Slam”. ITZY also made history as the second South Korean girl group to graph more than one hit on the Billboard Global 200 with the release of their single, ‘In The Morning’.
TWICE therefore is Genius Korea’s Top Girl Group for 2021 and can be considered as the most successful girl band while ITZY manages to be Genius’s Second Top Girl Group for 2021.
