Yo Yo Honey Singh is a well-known rap phenomenon in India’s music business. He has delivered some legendary foot-tapping melodies that continue to make fans groove, from Blue-Eyes to Desi Kalakaar. Honey Singh’s road hasn’t been simple, and his alcoholism hasn’t been kept hidden.
His worsening illness forced him to take a two-year vacation from music at one time in his profession. Now, in a recent interview with Pinkvilla, the artist spoke out about his difficult period in life and how industry folks helped him.
Honey Singh discusses his alcoholism.
During the conversation, Honey said that he was going through a “bad” phase and that his alcoholism had taken a toll on his mental health. He went on to say that he couldn’t sleep at night and that it took him about three months to realize and embrace the problem. Honey thinks that an artist serves as a mirror to his audience, therefore rather than keeping the issue hidden, he opted to speak up about it.
When people questioned the musician “where he had gone for two years,” he said, “I had disappeared for two years.” He accepted responsibility and defended his actions by claiming he was ‘ill.’ He recalls working on ‘Dheere Dheere’ for Hrithik Roshan and claimed that he was dealing with mental health concerns at the time. The musician praised his family, saying that they were his “backbone” even during difficult times.
Towards the end of his discussion, he mentioned that he had received encouragement from acquaintances in the Bollywood sector. When he mentioned Deepika Padukone, his Lungi Dance partner, he screamed that the Padmavat actress had gone through a similar moment in her life, and after hearing Honey’s story, she quickly gave her Delhi-based doctor’s contact information with the rap artist. After recuperating, he expressed his gratitude by saying that everyone ‘prayed for him.’
