BTS is one of the most popular boy bands on the planet right now. The Bangtan Boys have been living it up to the fullest, from receiving tremendous amounts of love to ruling the charts. Unfortunately, things aren’t always perfect for the seven lads. This degree of celebrity comes with a price, and the price is a slew of huge issues.
Check out some of the major squabbles that BTS has gotten itself into throughout the years:
Charges of chart tampering
After the release of their single I Need U, BTS began to soar to the top of the charts. The guys were accused of attempting to manipulate the charts by utilizing unlawful means as they outsold famous groups like Big Bang.
Jimin’s snafu with his shirt
Jimin was once caught in the middle of a storm when he was photographed wearing an extremely controversial shirt that appeared to celebrate the Hiroshima explosion. Some Japanese nationalists saw the “atomic bomb” T-shirt, which included Korean independence slogans, as a celebration of the bomb that finally led to the Korean peninsula’s independence from Japanese domination.
The Hormone War has sparked a backlash.
Their song War of Hormone, released in 2014, was widely panned for being misogynistic. It had lyrics like “ladies are the best gift” and “wear high heels more often,” which netizens saw as objectifying women. Suga and RM have also been accused of being deceitful.
The Itaewon debut of Jungkook
Jungkook got himself into a lot of problems in April of 2020 when he was seen hanging out with his 97 liner squad in a restaurant and bar in Itaewon. At the same time, the Korean government was urging individuals to practice social separation in order to prevent the virus from spreading.
The plagiarism controversy involving RM
A few Twitter accounts accused RM of plagiarism back in 2015. They said he stole their lines and claimed them as his own. RM apologized for not authenticating the original source and said that he draws inspiration for songs from books, movies, interviews, and letters and that it was his error not to do so.
RM and Jimin have received death threats.
Threats were made against RM’s life in 2015 while BTS was in the United States, which several believe was in reply to RM’s controversial comments in an Australian interview in which he claimed, “When I first saw V and J-Hope, I couldn’t see them because they were too black.” Because of the snacks, they had to cancel the rest of their US trip. Then, in 2017, on their Wings tour, Jimin got death threats, prompting the authorities to beef up their security.
