In today’s time of urgency, when it is of utmost importance to conserve energy and save trees, a shocking move from BMC surprised everyone when The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited got the approval to cut down almost 2702 trees in order to build a 3-car shed at the Aarey colony of Mumbai. The move invited a lot of criticism from general Mumbaikars and the BMC received as many as 82k plus complaints against the same. However, the worst thing is it still didn’t manage to change BMC’s mindset.
This resulted in Mumbaikars literally coming down to the roads to form a human chain in order to stop the cutting. The movement gained more attention when Bollywood actress Shraddha Kapoor too braved the rain to come out in support of the movement. And now the latest to voice her thoughts against the same is none other than legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar, who referred to the incident as a ‘tragedy’. Reacting to the same on Twitter, Lata tweeted –
To cut down 2700 trees and invade the natural habitat for so many species would be a tragedy. I firmly oppose this move and I earnestly request the government to look into this matter and save the forest.#SaveAareyForest
