Former One Direction member Liam Payne has passed away at the age of 31 after falling from the third floor of a hotel in Buenos Aires. The incident took place on Wednesday at a hotel located on Costa Rica Street in the Palermo neighborhood, according to a police statement.
Police from the 14B station were dispatched to the hotel following a 911 call reporting an aggressive individual, suspected to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Although the police statement did not confirm the individual’s identity, Payne was staying at the hotel at the time.
Just days earlier, Payne had attended a concert by his former bandmate Niall Horan in Argentina on October 2, with videos of the event circulating on social media. Payne had recently celebrated his 31st birthday in the UK, as seen in posts on his Snapchat.
Born in Wolverhampton, Payne studied music technology at City of Wolverhampton College before gaining fame with One Direction. The group, which included Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, and Horan, came together in 2010 after participating in “The X Factor.”
Payne had spoken publicly about his struggles with substance abuse, revealing earlier in 2023 that he had completed treatment and was six months sober.
