On April 16, the Coachella main stage became a hotspot for Asian music aficionados as 88rising hauled out the major guns. With only a teaser, fans were already predicting who the main performers for the Head In The Clouds Forever set would be, and many gambled on CL and Jackson Wang being two of them.
And, true to form, the two performers headed to the Coachella main stage to deliver one of their finest performances to date. What came at the end of CL’s performance, however, was a surprise that no one expected, despite the fact that many fans yearned for a 2NE1 reunion!
Soon after her solo concert appeared to have ended, the opening beats of the famed K-pop girl group’s trademark tune could be heard. The shadows of Bom, CL. Dara and Minzy were visible in their iconic shapes as they approached the stage, which was appropriately titled ‘I AM THE BEST.’ The audience erupted, and it was no less than the most significant moment of the night when the focus was cast on the four ladies who defined K-pop for so long, 2NE1.
The word of their reunion quickly circulated over the world, and it became a trending issue. We’re looking at the many reasons why it means so much to us.
This is the first time 2NE1 has hit the stage as a group since their MAMA performance in 2015.
2NE1 is only the second K-pop girl group in history to perform on the Coachella stage.
Following their disbandment, 2NE1 supporters, dubbed the Blackjacks, hoped for even the faintest signals of a reunion. This simply adds to the assumption that 2NE1 will return.
Despite having spoken about it several times, fans have not seen them together at a public event in almost 6 years. This appearance has put an end to their drought.
CL previously stated that the group’s disbandment came as a surprise to the members, therefore pulling off the reunion meant even more to the artist. She stated the same in an Instagram post, adding that she intends to work hard to assure an hour-long performance.
