The FIFA World Cup 2022 has started on a pretty good note and all fans of soccer are simply loving every bit of it for real and in the true sense of the term. Yesterday, Iran started their campaign with their game against England. Although the game didn’t end for them on a nice note as they suffered a 6-2 loss against England, there were many positives to take out from the game. However, what made news and limelight wasn’t just their loss against England but also their act off the field. The Iranian footballers refused to sing the National anthem in solidarity with the protests that’s happening back in their country. The national team shows support for the anti-government protests taking place after Mahsa Amini’s death, reported Al Jazeera.

As Iran’s national anthem played at Khalifa International Stadium, television cameras showed the starting players standing stoically, but not singing. Iran lost the match to England, 6-2.
