At the IPL mega auction, Mumbai Indians paid $15.25 crores for wicket-keeper batsman Ishan Kishan, while Kolkata Knight Riders paid a large price for Shreyas Iyer, who is now the team’s captain. He was purchased for Rs. 12.25 crores. We take a look at the top-five most costly batters’ performances thus far in the competition.
Ishan Kishan (MI)
Ishan Kishan, the wicket-keeper batsman, had a good start to the season, scoring two fifties in a row, but then lost his touch. In six games, the left-hander has scored 191 runs at an average of 38.20. Kishan hit 54 against Rajasthan Royals at DY Patil Stadium after scoring an undefeated 81 against Delhi Capitals at Brabourne Stadium. However, both of his fifties were spent in defeat. The Mumbai Indians have had a poor start to the tournament, as they have yet to win a game and are currently ranked last in the points standings.
Shreyas Iyer (KKR)
Shreyas Iyer, the newly-hired Kolkata Knight Riders skipper, didn’t have a fantastic start to the season, but the right-handed batter has regained his form after being among runs in his last three appearances. In reality, Iyer has hit two fifties in the last three games, though they have both been in vain. The Knight Riders’ skipper was on fire during the match between KKR and Rajasthan Royals at the Brabourne Stadium, striking 85 runs in 51 deliveries while his side was set a monstrous target of 218 runs in 20 overs.
Liam Livingstone (PBKS)
Liam Livingstone was signed by the Punjab Kings for Rs 11.50 crores during the auction, and he hasn’t let them down. Livingstone went 19 & 19 in the tournament’s first two matches but then established his authority by hitting three fifties in the next four. He initially scored 60 runs off 32 deliveries against Chennai Super Kings, helping the team to a total of 180/8. The bowlers then got into the act, bundling out CSK for 126 runs to win the match at Brabourne Stadium by 54 runs. At the same location, Livingstone followed up with a 27-ball 64 that contained four maximums and seven fours as PBKS produced 189/9 in 20 overs.
