India as a country has always been fascinated with the game of cricket. While for the longest time, the obsession has mostly been about men’s cricket, off-late, the popularity of women’s cricket has also picked up immensely and to a great extent. The likes of Jhulan Goswami, Smriti Mandhana, Mithali Raj, and others have worked immensely hard in their entire career to help India become a force in women’s cricket. Ever since the inception of T20 cricket, the IPL has certainly been the most amazing and engaging T20 domestic league in the country. And now guess what? We are all set to see women’s IPL as well from 2023.

As per the latest media reports in ESPN CRICINFO, the BCCI is all set to launch a five-team women’s IPL tournament from next year. This has certainly been a dream for many and it is finally happening in reality. The tournament is all set to begin immediately after Women’s T20 World Cup ends in South Africa on February 26, 2022. The BCCI’s proposed plan involves a total of 22 matches, with each squad comprising 18 players with a maximum of six from overseas. No more than five overseas players can feature in a playing XI, with four from Full Member countries and one from an Associate nation.
