Whenever we talk about Indian cricket, a lot of emphasis and stress is often given to the men’s International team. Although the discrimination has come down a tremendous extent in the last few years, the difference in pay structure between the men’s team and women’s team for doing the same thing was quite a thing to deal with. While one can arguably say that there’s more sponsor involvement in men’s cricket, the BCCI has always done its best to actively promote and endorse Indian women’s cricket with the same enthusiasm and excitement.
And now amidst all this, a big and important update is coming in for all fans and admirers of Indian women’s cricket team ladies and gentlemen. BCCI’s Jay Shah officially announced that here onwards, the pay structure for women’s team and men’s team is going to be the same. This is a landmark moment indeed in Indian cricket history and here’s hoping things only get better here onwards.
I’m pleased to announce @BCCI’s first step towards tackling discrimination. We are implementing pay equity policy for our contracted @BCCIWomen cricketers. The match fee for both Men and Women Cricketers will be same as we move into a new era of gender equality in 🇮🇳 Cricket. pic.twitter.com/xJLn1hCAtl

The @BCCIWomen cricketers will be paid the same match fee as their male counterparts. Test (INR 15 lakhs), ODI (INR 6 lakhs), T20I (INR 3 lakhs). Pay equity was my commitment to our women cricketers and I thank the Apex Council for their support. Jai Hind 🇮🇳
