Kapil Dev on Rishabh Pant’s Accident Says, ‘Players Can Afford Drivers’

After Rishabh Pant was injured in a car accident on Friday morning and sustained multiple injuries, India's illustrious former captain Kapil Dev responded

Rishabh Pant, the wicket-keeper batsman for India, was seriously hurt when his car slammed into a divider and caught fire on Friday. Pant was involved in the collision and sustained numerous injuries; he is currently being treated at the hospital.

Kapil remarked in response to Pant’s Accident. Kapil Dev offered his perspective on Pant’s mishap. He said that any cricketer representing their nation, like Pant, should be “more careful” and use drivers rather than taking the wheel to prevent accidents.

Kapil Dev’s statements on Rishabh Pant’s Accident

“We can avoid things that can lead to mishaps like these,” Kapil said. “Especially for these special players. I recall my early playing days, I was riding a bike and met with an accident following which my brother never let me ride one,” he added. “The players should be careful. They don’t need to drive themselves. They can afford drivers. I know many people are passionate about driving, but when one has so many responsibilities, one must take care of oneself,” he stated to ABP News.

The tragic disaster in which Pant was driving his Mercedes on NH-58 when he lost control of the vehicle, and it collided with a divider, prompted Kapil to remark. From Delhi, the Indian cricketer was returning to his home in Roorkee.

Pant is currently being treated in Dehradun for multiple head, back, knee, and ankle injuries. On Monday, he was moved from the ICU to a private ward. His injuries, particularly those to his knees and ankles, will prevent him from working for at least six months.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has pledged to provide Pant with the best medical attention and support necessary to get through this trying time. Pant is now being treated in Dehradun’s Max Hospital after initially being transferred to Saksham Hospital Multispeciality and Trauma Center.

Rishabh Pant’s Career

Pant was selected as the vice-captain of the Indian squad for the South Africa tour of the India 2022 series in May 2022. But after India’s captain, KL Rahul was forced to withdraw from the series due to injury, Pant was selected as the series’ captain one day before the opening game.

As a result, Pant became the second-youngest skipper to command India in a T20I game at 24 years and 248 days. In the final game of India’s tour of England in July 2022, Pant scored 125 runs and remained unbeaten to register his first ODI century.
