In the new year, India is aiming their eye on the ODI World Cup 2023. At the same time, the BCCI has shortlisted 20 players who will play for the country. Also, the injury-prone players might be asked to skip the Indian Premier League. The BCCI wants players to focus on ICC events, avoiding injuries. This decision was made during the BCCI performance review meeting. It was held at a seven-star hotel in Mumbai. For the meeting, coach Rahul Dravid, Captain Rohit Sharma, NCA chairman VVS Laxman, and ex-chief selector Chetan Sharma were present. At the same time, Board President Roger Binny joined it via video conference.

Starting with the upcoming three-match series opposite Sri Lanka in India, the country will play 35 ODIs in 2023. Also, to manage the player’s workload, NCA will coordinate with the 10 IPL teams to have a clear record of the fitness and health of the players.

The meeting also discusses reviewing the performance of Team India in the year 2022. The Indian team didn’t do well in 2022, losing both the Asia Cup and the T20 World Cup. In addition, the BCCI announced the perks of the meeting through an official notice.

The official statement states, “The roadmap for the upcoming ODI World Cup in India was discussed at the meeting, along with issues related to player availability and workload management.”

Also, BCCI suggested three main recommendations.

1)The aspiring players are mandated to play a substantial domestic season to be part of the national team selection.

2)Yo-Yo Test and Dexa will now be important for selection criteria. And it is implemented on the roadmaps of the central pool of players.

3) Lastly, in Men’s FTP and preparation for ICC CWC 2023, the NCA will work with the IPL teams to monitor Indian players taking part in the Indian Premier League 2023.

After Rishabh Pant’s massive accident, the BCCI is taking new steps to ensure good results in upcoming matches.
