Some athletes are so focused and determined, they lift the games of those around them.
Take Puneet Kaur. Hailing from Ludhiana, Punjab, she began to join the Roller Skating group at her school Sacred Heart Convent School, during the summer of 1996. Her new rink mates kicked it up a notch or two whenever she joined the rink. She won her first medal in the year 1997, securing two bronze medals in the District Roller Skating Championship, Ludhiana, under the category of 300m & 500m speed skating. And the same year, she was selected at the state level Roller Skating Tournaments. She had always been a top performer with an unbeatable record. She was a prodigy 3000m road skating, she repeatedly won medals at the state level in this, from the year 2001-2003. But it wasn’t enough. In a sport increasingly dominated by teenagers, Puneet Kaur decided it was time to make a big move. “I have goals I want to accomplish, and I needed to feel that I could grow,” she claimed, talking about her athletic journey.
The skater had strong performances during her years, while it comes with its own risks (such as falling). Kaur always felt like she had control over her movements while skating. She qualified for the Nationals Championship, held in Kolkata for the first time in the year 2002. She represented her state Punjab. She won the short program at the district and state-level championships with a record score, although a fall in her free skate made her wait two years to score a position in the Nationals. In the year 2004, at the 42nd National Championship she won a silver medal in the category of 300m speed skating.
All self-made people had to start somewhere. By the year 2006, she had won many competitions and tournaments, securing gold positions at the district and the top positions at the state level and National level.
