Sania Mirza has reportedly confirmed her retirement from professional tennis. She would retire at Dubai WTA 1000 event happening this year in February. She also spoke about the decision in an interview with WTA (Women’s Tennis Association).
She will play in Women’s doubles at the Australian Open alongside Kazakhstan’s Anna Danilina, which will be her final appearance at the Grand Slam event. She missed the US Open last year because of her elbow injury. As per reports, she decided to retire in 2022, but the elbow injury in August ruled it out.
Talking to WTA, Sania stated, “I really don’t have the capacity in my mind to emotionally push that much anymore. I turned pro in 2003…Priorities change, and now my priority is not to push my body to the limit every single day,”
As per reports, after her retirement, Sania Mirza will focus on her academics in Dubai. She has been living in Dubai for over a decade with her husband, Shoaib Malik, a former Pakistan cricketer.
