27-year-old Bhavani Devi became the first fencer from India to qualify for the Olympics. She began her campaign with a confident 15-3 win against Tunisia but bumped into world number three Manon Brunet where she lost 7-15 in the next round.
India’s tennis challenge ended as early as Day 3 of the Tokyo Olympics as Sumit Nagal lost his men’s singles 3rd round match to World number 2, Daniil Medvedev.
TT sensation Sharath Kamal won his second-round match against Portugal but it was the end of the road for the fellow paddler, Sutirtha Mukherjee. Meanwhile, Atanu Das, Pravin Jadhav, and Tarundeep Rai lost to Korea in Quarter-finals at the Archery event.
