KE Kumar, age 59, a veteran car racer, died in a terrible collision at the MRF MMSC FMSCI Indian National Car Racing Championship at the Madras International Circuit in Irungatukottai, outside of Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Pictures from the car racing event’s live video stream showcased how the vehicle veered off the track and rescinded after colliding with another vehicle.
In the live-streaming video, Mr Kumar’s speeding car can be seen swerving off the road after colliding with the front end of another car coming at him on his left side, collapsing into the foliage at the demarcation fence, and then turning upside down. We could see some parts of the car body breaking off, following the race to put a halt.
Soon after, the veteran was taken out from the fatal wreckage and was rushed to the nearby hospital. However, he couldn’t survive the fatal injuries and succumbed to them.
Talking about the incident, the Chairman of Meet, Vicky Chandhok mourned and stated, “It is a most unfortunate incident. Kumar was an experienced racer. I have known him for several decades as a friend and competitor. The MMSC and entire racing fraternity mourn his passing away and convey heartfelt condolences to his family,”
Police have reported a case of negligence causing death and would go in-depth about the incident. The organisers MMSC and FMSCI, the sport’s national governing body, have also stirred an investigation following the incident, as stated by NDTV.
