A big update coming in for everyone who’s keeping a close tab on the auction for the media rights of IPL.
As per reports in TOI and India Today, the IPL’s media rights auction witnessed a robust bidding for TV and Digital rights of the Indian sub-continent on day 1. Reports earlier revealed that the valuation of per match earmarked at more than a whopping Rs 100 crore.
Reportedly, Viacom18, Disney-Star, Sony and Zee were involved in long auction battle that remained inconclusive with Package A (India TV Rights) and Package B (India Digital Rights) cumulatively fetching upwards of 42,000 crore ($5.37 billion approximately) and still counting. If reports are to be believed, the final result might not be out late on Monday or Tuesday as the battle for Packages A and B will continue on Monday.
And now, as far as packages b and c are concerned, Reliance’s Viacom18, won the rights for package C with a Rs 3,258 crore winning bid. As a result of this, Viacom, who also won the rights for Package B with a pay out of Rs 20,500 crore (Rs 50 crore per match for 410 matches), ended up paying Rs 23,758 crore for the entire bouquet of digital rights.
Jay Shah was quoted as saying,
Viacom18 bags digital rights with its winning bid of Rs 23,758 cr. India has seen a digital revolution & the sector has endless potential. The digital landscape has changed the way cricket is watched. It has been a big factor in the growth of the game & the Digital India vision.”
The Package D, which included rights for the Rest of the world, was won for a bid of Rs 1058 CR
In the end, BCCI ended up raking in a total sum of Rs 48,390 crore for the packages A, B, C and D.
