‘Wushu’ a form of Chinese martial arts is an international sport under the International Wushu Federation. Although Wushu is not a very famous martial art in India but it has still has given rise to some of the most talented athletes who have won laurels of the country on an international level. One of the most talented Wushu player is Pawan Gupta.
Pawan who hails from Delhi started his journey of Wushu at a very young age. As a child he always dreamt of being making a big name in martial art and wanted to win medals and honors for his country. It has now been over 12 years since Pawan has completely emersed himself in the art of Wushu and with his passion and hard work his dreams did come true.
In the 8th Asian Wushu Championship, 2012 and the event Sanshou at National Games, 2014 he secured bronze medals. In the Internal Wushu Championships under the weight category of 70 kgs he came third and received Award from the Traditional Wushu Federation of Armenia in 2017. It was indeed not easy for Gupta to compete with some of the world’s most fine Wushu players but those awards were just a starting point for him. With constant efforts and determination, he participated in several Asian Wushu Championships and won most of them. Along with Wushu he also has won 4X Kickboxing national champion.
Pawan Gupta has represented India on international levels and has won various Wushu Championships. Along with focusing on his own career he has been training various sportspersons and female Olympic athletes. Now, Gupta is striving to open his one-of-a-kind training academy for Wushu in India to train youngsters who share his passion in this special form of martial arts. It will indeed be a great opportunity for athletes in India to learn and train with a world-class Wushu player. The passion of Pawan for Wushu is an inspiration for the world and he is encouraging young athletes to hone and better their skills to excess in their careers.
Pawan said that, “Wushu is such a unique sport and martial art with so many different styles that I got inspired to practice and pursue it. My experiences in Wushu have been very uplifting and transformed my life as a sportsperson. I hope that many more youngsters in India take up Wushu as a sport.”
