Raina is an Indian professional tennis player named Ankita Ravinderkrishan. Raina was born to Lalita Raina and Ravinder Kishen Raina in the state of Gujarat. She was born and raised in Ahmedabad before relocating to Pune, Maharashtra when she was fourteen years old. Pune has a better infrastructure for developing young tennis talent, and her choice to relocate was influenced by her second-place finish in the Asians 14 and under masters competition in Melbourne. Raina attended Brihan Maharashtra for a short time and speaks Hindi, Kashmiri, Gujarati, and English.
Raina has represented her home state of Gujarat at national tournaments. Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Serena Williams, and Sania Mirza were her childhood heroes. Raina works out at Hemant Bendrey Tennis Academy.
Raina has won 11 singles and 18 doubles championships on the ITF Circuit, as well as one WTA title and one WTA 125k title (all in doubles). She also won gold in the women’s singles and mixed doubles categories in the 2016 South Asian Games, as well as a bronze in singles at the 2018 Asian Games. She clearly is creating history. She is giving us new records every now and then. Can she break Sania Mirza’s records considering that she has a long way to go? What do you think? Do let us know in the comments.
