The real story behind KL Rahul’s name.
KL Rohan might have easily been mistaken for KL Rahul. His father, KN Lokesh, a professor at Karnataka’s National Institute of Technology, was a huge Sunil Gavaskar admirer and wanted to name his kid after the original master blaster. He, on the other hand, mistaken Rohan Gavaskar’s first name for Rahul.
The two have the same name, but that’s not the only thing they have in common. The 22-year-old considers Rahul Dravid to be his idol, and his batting technique has attracted comparisons to the legendary Indian batsman.
“As a youngster, it is very easy to complicate things. All he (Dravid) tells me is that cricket is a very simple game and to keep it that way. Work hard on your technique and that is like oxygen,” Rahul said, as reported by Sportskeeda.
“He is a gifted young batsman who is one of the few in Karnataka at the time. He’s scoring runs, which is a positive thing; the key for someone like him this season, especially in the Ranji Trophy, is to keep scoring runs. This season will be crucial for him. He appears to be in excellent form and has amassed a large number of runs. Last year, he did well in the Deodhar Trophy, a one-day competition.” In September 2013, Dravid told Rediff.
