Ishan Kishan, the young star player for Team India, had a phenomenal series-ending performance against Bangladesh in the third and last ODI on Saturday, becoming just the fourth Indian to reach the century mark in the format.
Ishan established a new ODI record by being the fastest double-centurion with a knock of 210 from just 131 deliveries. The young player beat Chris Gayle’s previous record of 138 deliveries when he struck his 200th run as a member of the West Indies.
Wishes for the young player from the cricket community flooded in after Ishan Kishan’s spectacular hit in Chattogram, and veteran Indian opener Virender Sehwag sent Ishan a touching tweet. Sehwag, one of only four Indians to reach a double-hundred in an ODI, said, “That’s how you do it. Ishan Kishan did a fantastic job. Team India will benefit much from taking this strategy. #INDvsBAN.”
Have a look at Virendra Sehwag at the tweet –
Sehwag hit two centuries in an ODI encounter against the West Indies in 2011. Before fellow countryman Rohit Sharma’s 264 against Sri Lanka, when he made 219 off 149 deliveries, he held the record for the biggest ODI score.
The Indian skipper, who had hurt his thumb while fielding at slips during the second game of the series, gave Ishan a chance to play in the last ODI. The youthful player took advantage of the chance, broke Gayle’s record, and also broke Virender Sehwag’s record for India’s fastest 150 in an ODI. The seasoned batsman had reached the milestone in 112 balls, whereas Kishan did so in 103 balls.
Venkatesh Prasad, a former Indian bowler, also sent congratulations to Ishan Kishan on Twitter. “Ishan Kishan, please bow. In-game history, the fastest double hundred. India needs to proceed in this manner. The approach is improved every day, even if it only works some days. So much fun to watch. #INDvsBAN,” he added.
