In Tests, India is a formidable opponent, but there are a few batsmen who have a strong batting record against them and have hammered the majority of Test centuries while playing against them. A foreign player has scored the most Test centuries against India with eight.

1. Steve Smith

Steve Smith is on the list of players who have scored the most hundreds against India in Test cricket. Smith has played 14 Tests against India and has eight hundreds to his credit. The right-handed batter has 1742 runs at an average of 72.58 in 28 innings.

In addition, the former Australian captain has 5 half-centuries against India. He has a best score of 192 runs against India. Smith has a 61.80 batting average and has scored 7540 runs in 139 innings. In his Test career, he has smashed 27 hundreds and 31 half-centuries.

2. Garry Sobers

Garry Sobers, a former West Indian cricketer, is another batsman who has eight Test hundreds against India. From 1954 through 1974, Sobers represented the West Indies in Test cricket. Along with his eight centuries, the left-handed batsman amassed 1920 runs in 30 Test innings against India, averaging 83.47. Against India, the West Indies all-rounder hit seven half-centuries.

198 was his highest score against India. In 18 Test matches against India, the left-arm bowler took 59 wickets. In his Test career, Garry Sobers appeared in 93 games. He scored 7999 runs in 159 innings, averaging 34.03 runs per inning. In addition, he took 235 wickets.

3. Viv Richards

Viv Richards, a former West Indian cricketer, is the third batter to reach eight Test hundreds against India. From 1974 through 1991, he played Test cricket for the West Indies. The right-handed batsman scored 1927 runs in 41 innings against India, including eight hundreds and seven half-centuries.

He had a 50.71 average against India, and his best Test innings against them were 192 runs unbroken. In total, the former West Indies captain took part in 121 Test matches. He scored 8540 runs in 182 innings, averaging 50.23. In Tests, Richards smashed 24 hundreds and 45 half-centuries.

4. Ricky Ponting

Ricky Ponting is the fourth batter to score eight hundred in Tests against India. From 1995 to 2012, the previous Australian captain captained his country in Test matches. The right-handed batsman faced India in 29 games. Ponting scored 2555 runs in 51 innings, including 8 centuries and 12 half-centuries.

In Tests against India, he has an average of 54.36 and his highest score was 257 runs. Ricky Ponting appeared in 168 Test matches in all. He scored 13,378 runs in 287 innings, averaging 51.85 runs per inning. In Tests, he also smashed 41 centuries and 62 half-centuries.

5. Michael Clarke 

Clarke’s 151 is also the only time a visiting batsman has scored 150 or more in a Test match in India. Bryan Valentine of England set the previous record at Bombay Gymkhana Stadium in 1933-34. It was in place for 80 years.
