In the Indian Premier League on Sunday, Harshal Patel scored a hat-trick to help Royal Challengers Bangalore beat Mumbai Indians by 54 runs.
Patel’s medium-pace bowling flattened Mumbai’s batting, dismissing Hardik Pandya (3), Kieron Pollard (7), and Rahul Chahar (0) for his first IPL hat-trick with figures of 4/17.
“I was thinking that if the batters can’t identify my slower balls, then the bowlers will find it difficult to detect them as well,” Patel said after the game, alluding to Rahul Chahar’s hat-trick-winning wicket. “I simply placed a wager on it. This was my sixth hat-trick attempt, and I finally got one, so I’m pleased.”
“What Harshal did tonight was unbelievable,” said RCB captain Virat Kohli.
Patel has become the 17th bowler in IPL history to take a hat-trick. Amit Mishra holds the most hat-tricks in IPL history with three, Yuvraj Singh has two, and 15 other bowlers, included Patel, have each taken one.
