Sachin can be seen overlooking the silver medal won by the 27-year-old in the photos. Mirabai Chanu was also given a bunch of flowers by Tendulkar.
Sachin also posted on Instagram with the caption, “@mirabai_chanu can lift spirits as easily as she lifts weights! Was wonderful spending time with you. You’re a champion whose journey can inspire several more champions! Keep soaring in your life & career!.”
Chanu was the first Indian to get a medal in the just-completed Tokyo Olympics. She won silver in the women’s 49 kg division with a total lift of 202kg (87kg+115kg). Chanu put up a strong performance, but it wasn’t enough to win the gold medal, as China’s Hou Zhihui grabbed first place. In the same division, Indonesia’s Windy Aisah took bronze. Chanu exceeded all expectations by winning India’s second-ever Olympic weightlifting medal. Karnam Malleswari, a former weightlifter who won a bronze medal at the Sydney Olympics in 2000, was her inspiration. India ended the Tokyo Olympics with seven medals, the most it has ever won at an Olympics.
