Former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir tweeted a throwback photo with renowned all-rounder Yuvraj Singh on Tuesday, having a trip down memory lane ahead of the commencement of the IPL 2021 in the UAE. Gambhir and Yuvraj, two of Indian cricket’s most distinguished players, played key roles in leading Team India to two ICC World Cup victories in 2007 and 2011.
Gambhir and Yuvraj have a strong friendship, so the cricketer traveled back in time in one of his recent Instagram photos to reminisce their on-field banter. In addition to his flashback shot, the former Team India cricketer and Member of the Indian Parliament also uploaded an intriguing caption.
“Thank God we have big smiles on our faces,” Gambhir wrote. “Otherwise, people would think you’re stopping me from getting into a fight.” In reaction to Gambhir’s ex-teammate Yuvraj’s post on the Facebook-owned platform, Gambhir’s ex-teammate Yuvraj also left a notable remark. Yuvraj answered, “I always had to do that to keep you from getting into a fight.” Gambhir and Yuvraj’s amusing banter quickly went viral on the internet.
The ex-Indian cricketer got involved in many heated brawls with opposing players throughout his illustrious international career. Gambhir was fined in 2007 for his notorious Kanpur altercation with former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi. Gambhir and Afridi have been at odds since their playing days, according to the uninitiated. Gambhir and Afridi have frequently swapped barbs on social media, even after their international retirements. For Team India, the 39-year-old played 58 Tests, 147 One Day Internationals (ODIs), and 37 Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is). Gambhir also won two IPL titles with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
