Sourav Ganguly, the 39th and present president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, is an Indian cricket administrator, commentator, and former national team captain (BCCI). He is referred to as the Maharaja of Indian Cricket. Ganguly distinguished him as one of the best batsmen in the world and one of the most accomplished captains of the Indian national cricket squad during his playing career. He was particularly productive through the offside while batting, receiving the moniker “God of the Off Side” for his graceful stroke play square of the wicket and through the covers.
Ganguly learned to bat left-handed while being right-handed in order to use his brother’s sporting equipment. He was accepted into a cricket academy after demonstrating some promise as a batsman. At their home, he and Snehasish erected an indoor multi-gym and a concrete wicket to practice the game. They used to watch old cricket match films together, particularly those featuring David Gower, whom Ganguly idolized. He was named captain of St Xavier’s School’s cricket team after scoring a century against the Orissa Under–15.
Chandidas Ganguly, Sourav Ganguly’s father, was a prominent businessman in Calcutta. Chandidas Ganguly had the third-largest printing plant in Asia, demonstrating his economic prowess and wealth in his field. He adored his sons and always pushed them to follow their ambitions since doing so had aided him in becoming a successful businessman in his youth.
Sourav and Snehasish Ganguly were born to Nirupa Ganguly, and she continues to live with them in their Behala home in Kolkata. She has been afflicted with a cardiac condition and is still battling it. She is a septuagenarian who was hospitalized last year due to heart problems while Sourav Ganguly was on World Cup commentary duties in England.
After returning from the England trip in 1997, Sourav Ganguly married his close childhood friend Dona Ganguly. After several objections from both sides of their families, the pair finally married on February 21, 1997.
Dona is an Indian traditional Odissi dancer who also belonged to a rich Behala family who happened to be one of the Ganguly family’s business adversaries. Dona is the owner of the “Diksha Manjari” dance school in Kolkata, which was founded by the great Indian vocalist Lata Mangeshkar. Dona teaches dancing to the students, and the academy also offers instructors for Yoga, Drawing, Karate, and Swimming all under one roof.
Sourav and Dona married on February 21, 1997, and four years later, on November 3, 2001, they welcomed their first child, Sana Ganguly. Sana is currently 19 years old and studying at Oxford University in London for her graduation. She attended La Martiniere for Girls and Loreto House School, both of which are regarded as among Kolkata’s most prominent schools.
Sana has inherited most of her parents’ characteristics, as she enjoys watching cricket and dancing (Indian Classical). On Holi’s holiday last year, she performed an Indian classical form at a museum in Kolkata. Sana has a sizable social media following, having over 70K Instagram followers. In addition, she made her screen debut alongside her father in a jewelry commercial.
